With all of our traveling, it's nice to take a trip where you do absolutely nothing but relax and lay at the beach. For this, we decided to head to Cabo. If you stay outside of the touristy areas, you can enjoy a peaceful time in Cabo.
First time in Los Cabos? Be sure to see my initial post on currency, where to stay, must see spots, and other important travel information:
This time we stayed at Hyatt Place Los Cabos. The hotel stay was very comfortable for the four of us in a room with two queen sized beds. It also included a delicious breakfast, which allowed us to get breakfast each morning before heading to the beach each day.

We also stayed a couple nights at the Hampton Inn and Suites to enjoy the roof top pool.
After dropping our bags, we headed for tacos at El Toro Guero. It never disappoints. Keep in mind that the plates are large and meant to be shared. You can always order more if you are still hungry. The food is delicious, and they have great service!
Santa Maria Bay is my favorite beach in Cabo. It's the best snorkeling spot too! You can simply swim out from the shore and start seeing fish immediately. Bring your own umbrella or rent one from the vendors on the beach. Vendors have chairs and umbrellas available.
If you walk all the way across the beach to the large rock on the right, you can get into the water to snorkel and start to see fish almost immediately. If headed to this beach, do not forget your snorkel gear!
We headed to The Hangman for dinner. We enjoyed this place our first trip to Cabo and wanted to go again. This time it was underwhelming. I recommend waiting for a table on the first floor. Upstairs was quiet (pretty boring) and played outdated American music instead of getting to hear the local live music being played downstairs. The salsas also seem like a huge waste, no possible way to eat all of that (especially with only 2 being on the milder side for me to enjoy).
In the morning, we enjoyed breakfast outside and then headed to Fresko supermarket to pick up snacks for the beach. We headed to Pamilla Beach and were able to get one of the free palapas on the beach. There is free parking here if you get there early enough. It was packed when we were leaving. To the right you can walk a long way around the shores past a number of large hotels. It's really beautiful and you can almost have the entire place to yourself when walking.
Guacamaya's is a family favorite (for the guys anyway). They have excellent food. I opted for the al pastor tacos. They were absolutely delicious. We also enjoyed fresh salsas, horchata, and live music. They also have tons of other options, but we are taco lovers.
Chileno Beach is a great beach filled with lots of locals. You can rent umbrellas and beach chairs here if you need them. We brought an umbrella and sheet but ended up renting another umbrella so we could all enjoy the shade. Walk to the left and you can walk through the rocks to a small trail that leads to a secluded area. Bring snacks and water as there are no food vendors here.
We went to Takqueria el Paisa for dinner. This open-air restaurant (like many restaurants in Cabo) was bordered with cactus. We ordered tacos and horchatas. This is the only place I got a stomach ache from. There service was good and it was packed. There is an area you can load up on toppings for your tacos too. VERY fast service and great prices.
We decided to explore downtown San Jose del Cabo and take a beach break. Drive around the area and you will find lots of free parking. There are tons of shops and restaurants to explore as you wander around. We wanted to make a point to come at night too since it was decorated for Christmas everywhere. We were able to pick up a few gifts and then went to check in to our other hotel and grab a bite to eat.
El Merkado is a food hall within walking distance of Hampton Inn and Suites. There are several restaurants here to choose from, so everyone can get what they want and then sit together at any table. Everyone was very friendly and the food ranges from affordable to expensive. They also have desserts.
We decided it was a good day to just hang out at the rooftop pool at hotel. There is a great view of the ocean, and the cabanas are free. There is a full bar for any drinks you might want as well as a hot tub.
San Jose del Cabo is beautifully decorated for Christmas. We ventured back to look at the lights and to see if there were any restaurants we might want to try out.
We ended up heading to a place we passed by on our way back to the hotel almost daily after going out to dinner each night. Lateral Crudo y Asado has EXCELLENT tacos and live music! The service was fast, and we all loved the tacos.
Palmilla Beach also has good snorkeling. Boys chose Palmilla Beach for the day. I finally talked one of them into snorkeling with me. Just walk to your right, in front of the hotel area and you can snorkel from the shore. It's not as calm as the water in Santa Maria Bay, but it's not too rough and you can still see plenty of fish, just the water isn't as clear since there are waves coming in. It's a beautiful beach and we were able to get another palapa (free) which is nice when you spend the entire day at the beach. Shade is necessary!
We debated if we should get dressed up and go to a nice hotel restaurant on the beach to enjoy Christmas dinner, but we decided to just go local for tacos. Like I said before my boys love Guacamaya's. So we headed back for tacos and horchata.
If you want a great spot for a nice Christmas Dinner, there is a restaurant we enjoyed listed in my previous Cabo post. It has great views, great food and if you go early and then stay as the sun sets, you can't beat it!
That's it! I told you we were relaxing. Nothing but beaches and tacos...it was perfect! We headed home to enjoy a late Christmas dinner and gift opening with my mom. If you plan to go to Cabo, you won't be disappointed. You can find great food at great prices IF you eat where the locals do. If you eat at only the tourist spots, you will be paying tourist prices, which is fine if that is what you want. But if you explore a bit, you can really enjoy great food.
